Tuesday @ 7 - #3: Stephen Boyd

What is there to say about Stephen Boyd? Intelligent, hard working, good looking, honest. It's like he's the total package. It's rare to meet people with the natural work ethic and charisma that Stephen has. He's one of those people that you want to keep your eye on because you know he's going to be up to some big stuff in just 5 years or so. He's already killing it. He isn't waiting for opportunity to come to him. He's finding and making his own opportunities.

When I first got to DBU, Stephen was one of the first friends I made and quickly became one of my best friends. We came from pretty different backgrounds, me from Denton and him from Las Vegas, but our differences in background yet similarities in views and personality made it a natural fit for us to be friends. I think we both realized how good we are for each other. We're so similar yet we bring a different twist to life that helps us see things from new perspectives.

I always joke that Stephen is my brain and I'm his feelings. That's not true. Sometimes I think and sometimes Stephen has feelings. But I think that, to an extent, that's what is so great about friendships like that. We all have things we're good and not so good at and when those two things can compliment each other in a friendship or relationship, you're always going to be better because of it. That's what I appreciate about Stephen. We make each other better. Always pushing each other farther and farther into our callings. Isn't that what good friends do?

If you want to talk about someone who is relentlessly pursuing their calling, it's Stephen. As just a junior, he's worked for the city of Las Vegas, freelance written for one of the largest churches in America, worked on a political campaign, helped me in marketing with INITIATIVE, interned at Southwest Airlines, and is now on staff with YoungLife in Arlington. Oh also, he's running for DBU Student Government President. You should vote for him.

We met up with some of the INITIATIVE staff on top of a roof this morning. They wanted to see the sunrise over the city too. It was beautiful.

So needless to say, it was a ton of fun hanging out with him this morning. It's been such a blessing in my life getting to live with him these last two years. He's contemplating graduating a semester early because he's Stephen Boyd and he can. Selfishly, I hope he doesn't, but once he's out of school I know he's just gonna take off even more than he already has. I can't say I blame him for wanting to. Either way though, he's already making a huge impact and that'll just expand when his focus isn't divided between school and conquering the world.

So that's Stephen Boyd for you. He's an everyday world-changer and he's my best friend.
